Johannes Hänsch
Johannes Hänsch (born June 24, 1875 in Berlin-Kreuzberg , † April 29, 1945 in Berlin-Buch ) was a German landscape painter and sculptor .
Johannes Hänsch was born the son of the sculptor Adolf Hänsch and his wife Johanna.
He began his artistic training in his father's studio and continued it in the studios of other Berlin sculptors. Possibly for health reasons, however, he decided to become a painter and began his studies on December 11, 1897 at the “ Royal Academic University for the Fine Arts ” in Berlin with Eugen Bracht , Friedrich Kallmorgen and Paulvorgang . He became a student of the master class for landscape painting at the academy with Professor Albert Hertel .
As a freelance landscape painter, he was a member of the “ Association of Berlin Artists ”. Since 1903, Johannes Hänsch has taken part in the Great Berlin Art Exhibition and in the exhibitions of the Association of Berlin Artists. His colorful painting showed a clear influence from impressionism .
He painted almost exclusively deserted landscapes from all parts of Germany. Pictures depicting human figures were a rare exception, but he did create some mostly funny self-portraits.
After the outbreak of the First World War , Hänsch was acquitted of military service because he had survived tuberculosis .
Even after the “ Degenerate Art ” campaign in 1937, he remained loyal to landscape painting and did not create any pictures on political orders.
Hänsch remained independent as a bachelor without a family all his life. On 24 March 1945 he prescribed in the Testament his housekeeper Miss Marie Walter sole heir to his fortune with the house, studio and all plants. He died in the Berlin-Buch hospital in besieged Berlin in the last days of the Second World War .
