Jan Hansky ( German Johannes Hansky; born November 24, 1925 in Nebelschütz ; † July 15, 2004 in Eisenhüttenstadt ) was a Sorbian painter and medalist .

Live and act

Jan Hansky learned the profession of a decorative painter after completing his regular primary school years , which he had to interrupt because of the war effort and imprisonment. From 1948 to 1952 he earned his living as a painter.

From 1952 he studied for three years at the Technical School for Applied Arts in Potsdam with Werner Nerlich . From 1956 to 1962 he was head of the color and interior design department at VEB Expansion Union in Eisenhüttenstadt. In addition to his work, he studied photography in East Berlin from 1961 to 1962 .

From 1962 Hansky was in Eisenhüttenstadt as a commercial artist working freelance. In 1963 he became a member of the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR . From 1973 to 1988 Jan Hansky was chairman of the Frankfurt (Oder) district association . He was also a member of the Association of Sorbian Artists.

His artistic life's work consisted primarily of poster designs, coats of arms, medals, plaques and postage stamps. From around 1978 he turned more to painting, with a particular focus on the technique of lacquer sanding painting. Jan Hansky was counted among the best lacquer sanding painters in Germany. A street in his memory is named after him in Nebelschütz, where he was born.
