Johannes Hubler
Johannes Hubler (born June 12, 1816 in Bätterkinden ; † February 25, 1858 in Burgdorf ) was a Swiss politician . From 1851 until his death he was a member of the National Council.
biography
Hubler studied law at the University of Bern . During his student days he joined the radical liberal movement Young Switzerland , which was influenced by Giuseppe Mazzini's Young Europe . He also joined the Grütliverein and was temporarily editor of the Independent Newspaper . In 1841, Hubler was admitted to the bar. From 1842 he worked as a lawyer and notary public in Burgdorf .
In 1846, Hubler was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Bern , of which he was a member until 1854. In the National Council elections in 1851 , he ran successfully in the constituency of Oberaargau . In 1854 the cantonal government appointed him governor of the Burgdorf district , but he refused to be elected to the higher court . In 1857 he was a co-founder of the Hubler & Schafroth synthetic wool factory . Together with his friend Johann Rudolf Schneider , he initiated the Swiss Ostwestbahn in the same year .
