John IX (Pope)
John IX (* in Tivoli ; † 900 ) was Pope from 898 to 900.
He was a Benedictine and was elected Pope by the Formosian party at the instigation of Emperor Lambert of Spoleto . Sergius III, who was appointed antipope at the same time by the anti- formosians. was driven out at gunpoint. The rehabilitation of Pope Formosus , who died in 896, was reiterated by John.
In general, he tried to remedy the grievances left behind in the church by his predecessors. When he died unexpectedly in 900, conflicts arose again between the Roman noble families.
