Johannes Koendgen

Johannes Köndgen (born May 1, 1946 in Freudenstadt ) is a German lawyer and university professor at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn .

Life

After studying law in Berlin and Tübingen , Köndgen received his doctorate in 1976 on a subject from tort law . The habilitation took place in 1981 at the University of Tübingen . Köndgen was initially a professor at the University of Hamburg , then a full professor for civil law and civil procedural law at the University of Hanover and then professor for private law, commercial law and comparative law at the University of St. Gallen (Switzerland). Since 1995 he has been Professor of Comparative Law and International Private Law at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and Director of the Institute for International Private Law and Comparative Law there.

Visiting professorships took him to the University of Florida in Gainesville in 1994 , to the University of Oxford (Center for the Advanced Study of European and Comparative Law) in 1996 and to the Robert Schuman University of Strasbourg in 1998/99 .

Since 1989 Köndgen has been the publisher of the magazine for banking law and banking (ZBB) that was founded by Hartmut Schmidt and himself .

Research priorities

Research focuses on banking law, investment law as well as comparative law and legal economics .
