Johannes Leeb (born September 1, 1790 in Memmingen , † July 5, 1863 in Munich ), also called Johann Leeb, was a sculptor and stonemason.

Life

Johannes Leeb was born on September 1, 1790 in Memmingen , Upper Swabia . At the age of 21 he went to Paris and was enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich on February 27, 1816 . During his studies he made plaster models for architectural decorations. A scholarship for Rome gave him the commission for a life-size statue of Leda . After creating several works of art in Rome, he returned to Munich in 1826. There he died on July 5, 1863. Streets were named after Johannes Leeb in his home town of Memmingen and in Munich where he worked.
