Johannes Mazomeit (born March 18, 1964 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ) is a German geobotanist and environmental planner .

Life

Johannes Mazomeit was born as the son of the theologian Joachim Mazomeit. He studied geography with a focus on botany at the University of Trier .

Mazomeit is a founding member of the Ludwigshafen district group of the Federation for Environment and Nature Conservation Germany (BUND) and has been on the board without interruption since it was founded. He is also chairman of the nature conservation council of the city of Ludwigshafen as well as chairman of the local group Ludwigshafen-Mannheim of the natural history association Pollichia .

Mazomeit researches the development of the plant world in large cities as a result of climate and environmental changes over the past decades. For many years he dealt with the mapping of plants in the city of Ludwigshafen and published some of his observations in the generally understandable book Plant Rarities on the Upper Rhine - Examples from Ludwigshafen / Mannheim , in which he presents unusual plants. Mazomeit also criticizes the illegal greening of many inner cities by hobby gardeners with regard to the ecological damage caused by this activity. Mazomeit also dealt with the environmental problems in the Trassenwald near Friesenheim several times .

Mazomeit was represented as an expert in a SWR film about the spread of neophytes such as ambrosia in Rhineland-Palatinate . In the run-up to the broadcast, he described the consequences of the spread of neophytic plants in Germany. He is also the project manager for recording and reporting ragweed stocks at Pollichia, which was commissioned by the state of Rhineland-Palatinate for the corresponding monitoring.

Mazomeit is also active as an advisory expert on landscape development plans and other environmental planning for the city of Ludwigshafen. He gives lectures or gives guided tours on his specialties.

In March 2017, Mazomeit reported on the delayed flowering of certain typical early flowering plants, including celandine . He pointed out that this can be attributed to the mild winters of recent years.

Mazomeit is also an expert at the Palatinate Museum for Natural History .

Honors

On December 5, 2013, the Lord Mayor of Ludwigshafen Eva Lohse awarded him the Citizenship Medal of the City of Ludwigshafen for 30 years of voluntary work in nature and environmental protection in the City of Ludwigshafen.
