Johannes Meyer (born October 9, 1801 in Itingen , † July 13, 1877 in Liestal ) was a Swiss politician and Freemason .

Life

After a language stay in Romandie year Meyer completed a commercial apprenticeship in Basle ; until 1830 he was a merchant in Lyon . In the newly founded canton of Basel-Landschaft , he was a member of the government from 1832 to 1854 . He held the office of finance and was president four times. From 1835 to 1836 he was an educator and in the same years also a delegate to the Diet. In 1838 he was a member of the Constitutional Council . He was a representative of the party of order and the so-called anti, the opponent of the democratic movement.

In 1849 he was a co-founder and until 1872 first chairman of the board of directors of Basellandschaftliche Hypothekenbank . In 1853 he was a co-founder and from 1853 to 1869 a member of the board of directors and management board member of the Centralbahn-Gesellschaft and in 1854 co-founder of the Basellandschaftliche Zeitung . From the beginning of the 1840s he was paralyzed on the right side .
