John Paul Langer

Johannes Paul Langer (born February 24, 1897 in Hilbersdorf , † February 25, 1938 in Freiberg ) was a Saxon historian and local researcher .

Life

The son of the cantor and senior teacher Paul Balduin Langer and his wife Maria Elisabeth, b. Schindler, attended school in Voigtsdorf from 1903 to 1907 and then until 1915 the secondary school in Freiberg. He then volunteered for the 11th Reserve Sea Battalion No. 2. Langer lost a leg in the First World War and from 1916 studied German, geography and history at the University of Leipzig . During his studies he became a member of the Leipzig University Choir of St. Pauli in the summer of 1917. He received his doctorate in 1919/20 with the work Die Waldsiedlung Hinterhermsdorf, a study of settlement, economic and constitutional history from Saxon Switzerland .

In 1921 he married Frieda Franke. From the same year Langer taught in Großschönau and in 1925 he became a teacher at the Albertinum in Freiberg. He published over 200 articles on local history and local history as well as slide shows and drawings. Langer researched a. a. about the history of Freiberg and its surroundings as well as Saxon Switzerland, the Ore Mountains and Upper Lusatia.

Langer belonged to the Upper Lusatian Society of Sciences from 1925 and became a board member of the Freiberg Antiquities Association in 1927 . He died at the age of 41 as a result of his war injury.
