Johannes Röhrig

Johannes Röhrig (born February 20, 1927 in The Hague , † January 31, 2012 in Son en Breugel ) was a Dutch football player . His nickname was Fred , so he is known only as Fred Röhrig in many publications, especially those in the Dutch language .

Röhrig became a professional in 1952 with the French first division club CO Roubaix-Tourcoing . In 1953, he was a substitute player for one of the Dutch international professionals at Watersnoodwedstrijd in the Prinzenparkstadion in Paris , a benefit game for the victims of the 1953 flood in the Netherlands. In the same year he moved to the German league for the reigning DFB Cup winner Rot-Weiss Essen , in which the left half-forward alongside teammates such as Helmut Rahn , August Gottschalk and Franz Islacker in the 1953/54 seasonone of the guarantors for this was that RWE made it into the upper league and advanced into the final of the German championship in the following season as the West Champion .

In the final on June 26, 1955, he played a major role in the fact that Essen beat 1. FC Kaiserslautern 4: 3; he even scored the opening goal to make it 2-1. In the seasons 1955/56 (with eleven goals) and 1956/57 (with twelve goals) he was the top tier scorer of the Red-Whites. By 1958 he had scored a total of 33 goals in 104 league games. There were also four goals in seven games in the championship final and two appearances in the European Cup .

In July 1958, he moved to PSV Eindhoven and scored seven goals in 29 appearances in the Eredivisie in the 1958/59 season . In the following season he only came to one more game in the Philips Werkself, which PSV won 2-0 against NAC Breda on September 6, 1959.
