Johannes Rechsteiner (born September 14, 1618 in Gais ; † June 1, 1665 in Gais ; authorized to reside in Gais) was a Swiss mayor , mayor and delegate from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Johannes Rechsteiner was a son of Conrad Rechsteiner and Elisabeth Hager. He married Ursula Höhener, daughter of Hans Höhener, community Captain . Rechsteiner was the mayor of Gais. From 1654 to 1665 he officiated as Landammann of Ausserrhoder and delegate of the Diet. In 1654 he chaired the Land Book Revision Commission. Rechsteiner challenged various conflicts during his reign: In his own country, the split up of the Kurzenberg community and Rehetobel von Trogen's beginning efforts to separate . At the federal level, he was concerned with the First Villmerger War . From 1656 to 1658 Rechsteiner was a representative of the Evangelicals in the referees' college to settle this conflict and in 1663 he was envoy to the renewal of the pay alliance of the Thirteen Places with Sun King Louis XIV in Paris .
