Johannes Reiche (composer)

Johannes Reiche (born August 24, 1955 in Grimma ) is a German composer , clarinetist , conductor and teacher. He published some of his compositions under the pseudonym Giovanni Ricci

Life

Reiche first studied clarinet with Rudolf Bartl and composition with Fritz Geißler at the "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" University of Music and Theater in Leipzig , before moving to the "Hanns Eisler" University of Music in Berlin to continue studying composition with Ruth Zechlin .

From 1977 Reiche worked under Olaf Koch as deputy principal clarinetist at the Hallescher Philharmonie . Since 1990 he has been working as a clarinet teacher at the Georg-Friedrich-Händel Conservatory and repeatedly leads ensembles made up of his students. He has also been conducting the Halle-Neustadt Music Association since 2002. Johannes Reiche works as a freelance composer and conductor, his particular commitment is new music ; his compositions are primarily dedicated to the winds and are documented in many ways on various CDs.

From 1994 to 1995 he was artistic director of the Hallische Musiktage . His successor is the composer Thomas Buchholz .
