Johannes Rhenius (* 1574 in Oschatz ; † June 29, 1639 in Husum ) was a German teacher .

Life

Rhenius was born in Oschatz in 1574. He studied languages ​​at the University of Leipzig . He became vice principal at the Thomas School . In addition, he was from 1609 adjunct and from 1617 full professor organi Aristotelici at the artist faculty of the Leipzig University. From 1618 to 1624 he was rector of the Eisleben grammar school . There he got into a dispute with the general superintendent Leonhard Rechtenbach (1578–1629), who sued him because of the falling number of pupils at all the Counts of Mansfeld due to the war, whereupon Rhenius resigned in 1624. In 1633 Rhenius was rector of the city high school in Kiel .

In 1633 Rhenius was appointed to Stargard in Pomerania as the first rector of the newly founded Collegium Groeningianum . Almost nothing is known from his work in Stargard. After he was not paid a salary in Stargard, he soon left the place again, possibly even without actually having started teaching there.

In 1634 he went to the Latin school in Husum as vice principal. He died there in 1639.
