Johannes Richter (politician)

Johannes Richter (born November 2, 1895 in Stettin , † April 23, 1970 in Bad Wiessee ) was a German journalist and politician ( SPD ). He was editor- in- chief at Hamburger Echo and member of the Hamburg parliament .

Life

The trained typesetter had been a member of the socialist youth movement since 1912 and joined the SPD in 1915. In 1916 he became chairman of the workers' youth in Stettin, and in 1919 their district chairman in Pomerania. He had functions in the Szczecin SPD and participated in the development of the Szczecin theater community , a people's stage . From 1919 he worked for the Stettiner Volksbote , which appeared in Stettin from 1885 to 1933.

In 1922 Richter left Stettin to work for the Hamburger Echo , where he worked in the local editorial team from 1922 and in the political editorial team from 1928. From 1927 to 1933 he was a city councilor in his place of residence Altona and chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. In 1933 he belonged for a short time as substitutes for the fugitive Max Brauer the county council Schleswig-Holstein on. During the time of National Socialism , he was dismissed as an editor, placed under police supervision and banned from working. It was not until 1938 that he received permission to take over his wife's lending library, in which he had been active since 1934. After the assassination attempt on July 20, 1944 , he was temporarily sent to the Fuhlsbüttel concentration camp . In April 1945 he was briefly drafted into police service.

From 1945 he was on the preparatory board of the SPD Hamburg, and from August 1945 to March 1946 he was the SPD party secretary responsible for press and propaganda in Hamburg. From 1946 to 1959 he was editor-in-chief of the Hamburger Echo . Richter was a member of the Hamburg parliament from 1946 until shortly before his death . Here he was from 1958 to 1968 chairman of the budget committee.

Johannes Richter was married. From the marriage a daughter and a son, the philosophy professor Ewald Richter , emerged.
