Johannes Schiess (politician, 1584)

John Schiess (* 13. October 1584 in Herisau ; † around 1639 in Herisau; heimatberechtigt in Herisau) was a Swiss mayor , Banneret , state governors, Diet envoy from the canton of Appenzell Outer Rhodes .

Life

Johannes Schiess was a son of Johannes Schiess . In 1610 he married Elsbeth Kuhn, daughter of Sebastian Kuhn. He entered into a second marriage in 1629 with Anna Tanner, daughter of Bartholome Tanner, councilor. From 1624 to 1628 he was the church caretaker of Herisau. From 1628 he was a parish captain and from 1629 Ausserrhoden Banneret. From 1631 to 1839 he held the office of governor. In 1635 he was a delegate to the Diet. The portrait of Schiess is said to have been included in the gallery of the Landammänner in Herisau town hall.
