Johannes Sjöstrand

Johannes Sjöstrand (* 1947 ) is a Swedish mathematician who deals with partial differential equations and functional analysis .

Sjöstrand received his doctorate in 1972 from Lund University under Lars Hörmander . He taught at the University of Paris XI and is a professor at the Université de Bourgogne in Dijon .

He is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences since 2017 . For 2018, Sjöstrand was awarded the American Mathematical Society's Stefan Bergman Prize .

He deals with micro-local analysis and examined, among other things, the Schrödinger equation of an electron in a magnetic field (with a spectrum of a chaotic butterfly image according to Douglas Hofstadter ), resonances and the tunnel effect in the semiclassical borderline case.
