Johannes Warneck

Johannes Warneck (born March 4, 1867 in Dommitzsch , † September 1, 1944 in Bad Salzuflen ) was a German Protestant theologian, missionary, preacher and translator. He made a particular contribution to researching the Batak religion .

Life

Johannes Warneck is a son of the German Protestant theologian and founder of the systematic Protestant missiology Gustav Warneck (1834-1910). He studied theology in Leipzig, Greifswald and Halle and was active in Wingolf at all three study locations . 1892–1906 he was active in the missionary service with the Batak in Sumatra , where he was primarily concerned with the education and training of local teachers and preachers. In 1908 he became mission inspector in Barmen , in 1912 first lecturer in mission in Bethel and in 1920 took over the office of Ephorus of the Batak Church. From 1932 to 1937 he was director of the Rheinische Missionsgesellschaft in Barmen. In 1925 he married the pastor's daughter Hanna Quistorp .
