Johannes van Oort (born September 4, 1949 ) is a Dutch theologian , church and religion historian.

Life

He studied Latin and Greek and then theology at the University of Utrecht . He has been active in higher education since 1972, from 1980 to 1983 as a research assistant for church history in Utrecht and from 1983 to 1987 as a university lecturer for religious education and didactics at the same university. In 1992 he was appointed lecturer in church history and the history of Christian teaching at the University of Utrecht. In 1999 van Oort was appointed associate professor of Gnosis in Nijmegen , where he was made full professor in 2000.
