In 1857 he was wounded in the powder explosion in Mainz, and proved himself with such determination that he was honored. He took part in the 1866 campaign with the 7th Division , after which he was stationed in Wiesbaden. He also took part in the campaigns in 1864 and 1870/71 . After taking his leave as lieutenant colonel in 1875 , he settled in Wiesbaden, where he died on April 16, 1883 at the age of 53.

reception

“Kühne, who wrote under the name of Johannes van Dewall - probably to better distinguish it from the writer Gustav Kühne (born Magdeburg 1806, died Dresden 1888) - proves to be a skilled narrator who knows and knows the big world there are appropriate moral images of her. In the cadet stories he develops a pretty humorous talent. Kühne correctly recognized his talents, evaluated them diligently and with his works he dignified himself among the great storytellers. "
