The Johansen Peak is a striking and 3310 m high mountain in the west Antarctic Marie-Byrd-Land . In the La Gorce Mountains, it rises 5 km east-southeast of Mount Grier .
The American polar explorer Richard Evelyn Byrd discovered him during his South Pole flight on his first Antarctic expedition (1928-1930). The geological team led by Quin Blackburn (1900-1981) in Byrd's second Antarctic expedition (1933-1935) mapped him. It is named after the Norwegian polar explorer Fredrik Hjalmar Johansen (1867–1913). The naming was carried out in comparison with the naming of geographical objects in this area by the Norwegian polar explorer Roald Amundsen during his South Pole expedition (1910-1912).
