John Paul Alessio (born July 5, 1979 in Vancouver , British Columbia ) is a Canadian MMA fighter who is currently competing as a welterweight . Alessio has fought for many of the major MMA leagues including Ultimate Fighting Championship , King of the Cage , Pride FC , World Extreme Cagefighting , Dream and Maximum Fighting Championship .

biography

Vancouver-born Alessio moved to Duncan and rode freestyle BMX there . When he was 19 years old, he decided to try his hand at martial arts . For some time he trained in Duncan under Jason Heit in a backyard gym. Then he moved to California and practiced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the Shark Tank . At 20, Alessio made his UFC debut against none other than Pat Miletich , but lost this fight. Alessio then switched to Pride, WEC, KOTC and then back to UFC. After that he was under contract at Maximum Fighting Championship.
