John Brisbin
John Brisbin (born July 13, 1818 in Sherburne , Chenango County , New York , † February 3, 1880 in Newark , New Jersey ) was an American politician . In 1851 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives for a few weeks .
Career
After his own school education, John Brisbin taught himself for some time as a teacher. After studying law and being admitted to the bar, he began to work in this new profession in Tunkhannock around 1843 . Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party .
After the death of MP Chester Pierce Butler , Brisbin was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the by-election due for the eleventh seat of Pennsylvania , where he took up his new mandate on January 13, 1851. Until March 3 of the same year he was able to complete the last weeks of the current legislative period in Congress . Then he had to cede the mandate to Henry Mills Fuller , who had won the regular congressional elections in November 1850.
From 1863 to 1867, John Brisbin served as president of the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad . After that he was still on the board and consultant of this railway company. He died in Newark on February 3, 1880.
