from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

John Burdett , actually John Patrick Burdett (born July 24, 1951 in Southampton ), is an English writer.

Life

Burdett studied law and also worked as a lawyer for some time. He lived in Hong Kong for over ten years and worked there for a British company, and for some time also in the British colonial administration. He later went into business for himself as a lawyer in Hong Kong. When he had successfully debuted with his first novel A Private Affair and his second novel The Last Days of Hong Kong also promised to be a success, he devoted himself only to writing.

Burdett is divorced and has a daughter.

reception

Burdett invented the protagonist Sonchai Jitpleecheep of the Royal Thai Police , a devout Buddhist. His four novels (they are to be continued) are set in and around Bangkok and are located in the red light districts of Nana Plaza and Soi Cowboy . The current (2010) novel of it ( The godfather of Kathmandu ) quotes Mario Puzo's novel The godfather with its title .

This cycle of novels about Sonchai Jitpleecheep should also be made into a film. The director James McTeigue was engaged for the filming of the first novel ( The Jade Rider ); but this film does not seem to have been made.
