John Burns Hynd

John Burns Hynd (born April 4, 1902 in Perth , Scotland , † November 8, 1971 in Enfield , London) was a British politician ( Labor ).

Career

Hynd attended St Ninian's Cathedral School and the Caledonian Road School in Perth. At the age of 14 he dropped out of school and started to work as a clerk in the district administration of the railway company London, Midland and Scottish Railway . In 1925 he moved to the National Union of Railwaymen as an employee , for which he remained active until 1962.

In February 1944, he was elected as a member of the British House of Commons in a by-election in the Sheffield Attercliffe constituency, to which he was a member until 1970. He was Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and Minister for German and Austrian Affairs from July 1945 to April 1947. From April to October 1947 he was Minister for Pensions.

From 1951 to 1955 he was a member of the General Medical Council , and chairman of the German-British and British-Latin American parliamentary groups. He is the author of a biography about Willy Brandt .
