John C. Fernie

John Chipman Fernie (born October 22, 1945 in Hutchinson , Kansas , USA ) is an American painter , photographer and sculptor . He lives in Colorado .

life and work

John C. Fernie studied at the Kansas City Art Institute from 1965 to 196 and from 1968 to 1970 at the University of California , Davis. He had his first exhibitions at the Reese Palley Gallery in San Francisco and later at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Fernie was one of the participating artists in the 1970 exhibition The Eighties at the Berkeley Art Museum (later University Art Museum).

Fernie's works are characterized by a fine composition and combinations of photos and texts, images and objects. His work is close to conceptual art.

John C. Fernie took part in Documenta 5 in Kassel in 1972 in the Individual Mythologies department .
