John Callcott Horsley
John Callcott Horsley (born January 29, 1817 in Brompton , now London , † October 18, 1903 in London) was an English genre , history and portrait painter and etcher .
Horsley was born the son of the English musician William Horsley . He attended Sass's Academy and entered the Royal Academy of Arts in 1831 , where he won a gold medal in antiquity. Since 1837 he sent his pictures to the institution. After trying history painting for some time, he turned back to humorous and sentimental anecdotal painting. In 1864 he was accepted as a member (RA) of the Royal Academy of Arts.
Horsley was also the father of the eminent British physiologist and neurologist Victor Horsley .
