John Carlson (saxophonist)

John Carlson is an American jazz saxophonist and church musician.

Carlson studied at North Texas State University and until 1986 at Northern Illinois University and worked as a musician in Chicago. Since 1987 he was a member of the Willow Creek Community Church , whose musical director he was from 1991 to 1998. He worked in Worship Team with Tommy Walker , Darlene Zschech , Israel Houghton and Nichole Nordeman and jazz groups with Kirk Whalum and Abraham Laboriel Sr. together.

During this time his CD Expressions Of Instrumental Worship ( Preludes I & Preudes II ) was created, the arrangements of which are in use internationally in the Willow Creek communities. Until 2001 he was the Product Development Director of the Willow Creek Association. From 2002 to 2004 he was Music Director and Director of the Technical Team at McKinney Fellowship Bible Church , and since 2004 Music Director of Parkview Evangelical Free Church in Iowa City.

As a jazz musician he performed a. a. with Louis Bellson Jon Faddis , Bob Mintzer , James Moody and Clark Terry .
