John Carroll (Bishop, 1838)

John Carroll (born March 16, 1838 in Castleblaney , County Monaghan , Ireland , † January 14, 1897 in Shrewsbury , England ) was an English Roman Catholic clergyman and Bishop of Shrewsbury .

Life

John Carroll received the sacrament of ordination for the Diocese of Shrewsbury on December 22, 1861 . On August 22, 1893, he was called to be coadjutor of the Bishop of Shrewsbury and received the title of Bishop of Acmonia . He received his episcopal ordination on October 28, 1893, the Archbishop of Westminster Herbert Cardinal Vaughan with the assistance of the Bishops of Leeds , William Gordon and of Salford , John Bilsborrow . On May 11, 1895 he succeeded in the Diocese of Shrewsbury.

He died on January 14, 1897 at the age of 58.
