John Child (born May 4, 1967 in Toronto ) is a retired Canadian beach volleyball player .

Career

Child played his first FIVB tournaments with Edward Raymond Drakich in 1991-1995 . The best result was a fourth place in Miami . In 1996 he formed a new duo with his long-term partner Mark Heese . The two Canadians achieved third places in the open tournaments several times and won the 1996 world series tournament in Berlin . In the same year they took part in the Olympic tournament in Atlanta and won bronze with a win against the Portuguese Maia / Brenha . They finished ninth at the 1997 World Cup as well as two years later in Marseille .

At the 2000 Olympic Games , Child / Heese finished fifth after a quarter-final defeat against Brazilians Zé Marco and Ricardo Santos . In the first main round of the 2001 World Cup in Klagenfurt they failed again due to Maia / Brenha. 2003 in Rio de Janeiro the end came in the preliminary round. The third Olympic participation in 2004 in Athens was more successful . The Canadians reached the quarter-finals, which they lost in three sets against the later silver medalists Bosma / Herrera . The 2005 World Cup in Berlin they had after the opening loss to Sweden Mountain / Svensson because of an injury prematurely terminate.
