Edward Raymond Drakich (born September 30, 1962 in Windsor ) is a Canadian volleyball and beach volleyball player . Since the end of his playing career, he has worked as a coach and official.

Career hall

Drakich began his career in 1981 at the University of Toronto , where he played on the university team until 1985 and won several individual awards. He later played in the German Bundesliga, among others . In 1985 he made his debut for the Canadian national team . With the Canadian selection he took part in the Pan American Games in 1987 .

Career Beach

Drakich played his first tournaments in 1989 on the AVP tour and in 1991 at the Open tournament in Rio de Janeiro with John Canjar . In Cattolica he made it into the top ten for the first time in sixth place. With his new partner John Child he achieved further top ten results in eighth place in Lignano in 1992 and in Rio de Janeiro in 1993 and seventh in Enoshima . At the first tournament in 1994, Drakich / Child just barely missed the medals as fourth. In Rio, Enoshima and Carolina they then finished sixth, nineth and seven.

In 1995 Drakich formed a new duo with Marc Dunn . In Clearwater and Lignano they came in 13th. There were also some 17th places before they came together in the top ten in Carolina as ninth. They finished the 1995 World Tour with a 13th place in Cape Town . They achieved the same result in 1996 in Rio de Janeiro and Hermosa Beach . They also qualified for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta . There they lost to the Australian duo Prosser / Zahner in the first game . In the losing round they were eliminated with a defeat against the Italians Ghiurghi / Grigolo .

Trainer and functionary

After his career as a player, Drakich worked as a coach. He coached the University of Toronto team as well as several beach volleyball teams. He also took on various tasks as a functionary. As a tournament director in beach volleyball, he organized open tournaments of the World Tour in Montreal , Toronto and Québec . In 2004 he was appointed Technical Director by the Canadian Federation. He later worked in the same position as "Beach High Performance Director". He worked as a supervisor for the FIVB and as a technical official at the 2008 Olympic Games .
