John Cook (born October 2, 1957 in Toledo , Ohio ) is an American professional golfer of the PGA TOUR . He is one of the veterans of this major North American tournament series, has played there in over 700 tournaments since 1980 and won eleven of them.

The US amateur champion from 1978 became a professional golfer the following year and took his first victory on the PGA TOUR in 1981. In 1983 he won the World Cup for the USA together with partner Mark O'Meara and ten years later was part of the victorious American team of the Ryder Cup . In 2003 he had a shoulder operation that removed several cysts .

Cook has been eligible to play for the PGA Tour Champions since October 2007 , where he was able to land a tournament victory at the start.
