John Frederick Dickerson (born July 6, 1968 in Washington, DC ) is an American journalist . Among other things, he moderated the political format Face the Nation for the television station CBS . Since January 2018 he has co-hosted the morning program CBS This Morning .

Life

John Dickerson was born in Washington, DC and grew up in McLean, Virginia . His father C. Wyatt Dickerson was an investor, his mother Nancy a journalist, the two of them were well connected in Washington (they were acquainted with Ronald Reagan and Lyndon B. Johnson and their wives, among others ). C. Wyatt Dickerson died of cancer in 2016 at the age of 92; his wife Nancy had died in 1997.

Career

After having previously worked for Time Magazine and Slate , among others , Dickerson joined the US television network CBS in 2009. In 2009 he presented Face the Nation for the first time , since 2015 as a permanent presenter. He replaced his predecessor Bob Schieffer . In 2016, Face the Nation was the most-watched Sunday morning show in the United States, averaging over 4 million viewers. This was ahead of the competition from the broadcasters NBC (Meet the Press), ABC (This Week) and Fox News (Fox News Sunday). In January 2018, Dickerson moved to co-host the morning show CBS This Morning, replacing Charlie Rose .

In June 2017 it was announced that Dickerson would also publish articles in the US magazine The Atlantic in the future . Jeffrey Goldberg, editor-in-chief of the magazine, called Dickerson "one of the best political reporters today."
