John Warnock (2008)

John Warnock (born October 6, 1940 in Salt Lake City , Utah ) became known together with Charles Geschke as the founder of Adobe Inc. , a graphics and publishing software company . Since retiring as CEO in 2001, he has co-chaired Adobe with Geschke.

Life

Warnock holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Philosophy and a Master of Science in Mathematics, and he is also a Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical Engineering . He received all titles from the University of Utah .

Before founding Adobe, John Warnock had worked at Xerox PARC since 1978 , as did Geschke. Since the two failed to convince Xerox of Interpress as a printer language, they left Xerox in 1982. In their new company - Adobe - they developed this printer language and marketed it under the name PostScript .

Warnock is the developer of the Warnock algorithm for computation of masking in computer graphics .

One of Adobe's writings, the Warnock developed by Robert Slimbach , was named after him. Adobe's PostScript technology has made it easier to print text and images.

Awards

John Warnock and Chuck Geschke received the Annual Medal of Achievement Award in October 2006 . You are the first founders of a software company to receive the AeA. They were also jointly elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2008. He has been a member of the American Philosophical Society since 2009 .
