John Egerton, 3rd Duke of Bridgewater ( April 29, 1727 - February 26, 1748 ), was a British peer .

Life

Egerton was the third son of Scroop Egerton, 1st Duke of Bridgewater , from his second marriage to Lady Rachel Russell, daughter of Wriothesley Russell, 2nd Duke of Bedford . As the younger son of a Duke , he used the courtesy address "Lord" John Egerton until 1731 . After his older brothers John 1719 and Charles 1731 died, he apparently married his father as the courtesy Marquess of Brackley .

At the age of 17 he inherited his father in 1745 as 2nd Duke of Bridgewater , 2nd Marquess of Brackley , 5th Earl of Bridgewater , 6th Viscount Brackley and 6th Baron Ellesmere . Before he reached the age of 21, and thus of legal age , he died of a fever in 1748 and was buried in Little Gaddesden in Hertfordshire . His title of nobility fell to his youngest brother Francis Egerton as the 3rd Duke of Bridgewater.
