John Fellows Akers

John Fellows Akers (born December 28, 1934 in Boston , Massachusetts , † August 22, 2014 there ) was an American manager.

Life

Akers graduated from Yale University . In 1960 he joined the computer company IBM as a sales trainee . In 1976 he became vice president. From 1983 to 1989 he was President of IBM. 1984 to 1993 he held the post of CEO at IBM; from 1986 to 1993 he was also "chairman" of IBM. His successor as CEO at IBM was Louis Gerstner, Jr.

Akers was named America's Worst Managing Directors list by Portfolio.com.
