John Graham Chambers

John Graham Chambers (born February 12, 1843 in Carmarthenshire , Wales , † March 4, 1883 in London ) was a British sports official.

He was able to win the Marquess of Queensberry, John Sholto Douglas , whom he had met at Magdalene College of the University of Cambridge , in 1867 to provide his name for a set of rule changes in boxing compiled by Graham. These rules came to be known as the Queensberry Rules and are the core of the boxing rules that are still valid today.

He also worked as an athlete and coach for the Cambridge rowing team and founded the British Amateur Sports Association.

In 1990 Chambers was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame .
