John Arthur Heilemann (born January 23, 1966 ) is an American journalist from New York , for whom he writes articles mainly about American politics.

Life

Heilemann studied journalism and political science at Northwestern University as well as for a Masters at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government . During this time, Barack Obama asked him for a cigarette.

Together with Mark Halperin he published the bestsellers Double Down: Game Change 2012 and Game Change , books devoted to the US presidential campaigns of 2008 and 2012 . He was a contributor to The New Yorker , Wired, and The Economist .
