John Jakes
John William Jakes (born March 31, 1932 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American writer .
Life
Jakes is best known for his historical novels. His three-part novel about the American Civil War - North And South (dt. The heirs of Cain ), Love And War (dt. Love and War ) and Heaven And Hell (dt. Heaven and Hell ) - was in 1985, 1986 and 1994 respectively a miniseries under the title North And South , North and South II and Heaven and Hell (German title each torch in the storm ) filmed. Jakes' wife Rachel, a former lecturer, portrayed Abraham Lincoln's wife in the film .
In addition, his nine-volume Chronicle of the Kent Family served as a template for several television films and short series: The Bastard (1978), The Rebels (1978) and The Seekers (1979).
Previously Jakes had been a fantasy - author made a name. Particularly well known z. B. in the 1970s his novel cycle about Brak, the barbarian , also published in German . His novel Mention My Name in Atlantis (1972), a parody of the fantasy genre, was also known in Germany under the title Tolle Tage in Atlantis .
