John Wilbur James, Jr. (* 21st January 1949 in Panama City , Florida ) is a former American American football poker players on the position of the punters . He played 10 years for the Atlanta Falcons in the National Football League (NFL).

Early years

James went to high school in Gainesville , Florida . He later went to the University of Florida , where he scored 57 punts with an average distance of 40.3 yards in his senior year in 1971 .

NFL

Atlanta Falcons

James played for the Atlanta Falcons from 1972 to 1981, where he is still the franchise record holder for most punts (873 for 35,633 yards). In 1975, 1976 and 1977 he was nominated for the Pro Bowl .

Detroit Lions

In 1982 he moved to the Detroit Lions where he only played two games.

Houston Oilers

During the 1982 season he moved to the Houston Oilers , where he ended his career in 1984 .
