John Patrick Joyce (born February 8, 1957 in Altoona , Pennsylvania ) is an American politician ( Republican Party ). He has been a Member of the State of Pennsylvania in the United States House of Representatives since January 3, 2019 .

Life

John Joyce graduated from Bishop Guilfoyle High School in Altoona in 1975 and then studied biology at Pennsylvania State University ; first at the Altoona campus and then at University Park , where he received his Bachelor of Science degree. Joyce earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Temple University in 1983 . He then worked at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and the Portsmouth Naval Hospital before returning to Altoona to work as a dermatologist . John Joyce is married with three children.

In March 2018, John Joyce ran for the seat of the newly created 13th congressional electoral district of Pennsylvania in the House of Representatives of the United States, which includes the central south of the state and is thus traditionally Republican. After beating seven other candidates in the Republican Party primary, he won the election on November 6, 2018, with 70.5 percent of the vote against Democratic candidate Brent Ottaway. Joyce took office on January 3, 2019. In the House of Representatives, he is a member of the Committee on Homeland Security and the Committee on Small Businesses .
