John Kahrs

John Gerald Kahrs (* 1967 ) is an American animator and director.

Life

Kahrs grew up in Cornwall , New York, and attended Cornwall High School. He studied at NSCAD University in Halifax , Nova Scotia, Canada . Carl Ludwig brought him to the Blue Sky Studios , where Kahrs worked under Chris Wedge . Kahrs moved to Northern California in 1997 and started working as an animator at Pixar . He worked as an animator on most of Pixar's animated feature films that were made up to 2007. In 2007, Kahrs moved to Los Angeles and became chief animator at Walt Disney Animation Studios . His first Disney film was the animated film Rapunzel, released in 2010 . In 2012 Kahrs' directorial debut appeared with Im Flug conquered . The short animation film, which was created as a mix of traditional animation and computer animation, won an Oscar in 2013 in the category of best animated short film .

Kahrs, who lives in Torrance, California, is a passionate glider pilot.
