John Keese

John Keese (born November 24, 1805 in New York ; † May 30, 1856 ibid) was an American auctioneer , publicist and book publisher .

Keese appeared in public as a humorous literary critic and published his own literary works anonymously in major daily newspapers. The most important work he edited is The poets of America, first published in 1840 .
