John L. Barker Sr.

John L. Barker Sr. (born October 15, 1912 in Cumberland , Maryland , † January 11, 1982 in Norwich , Connecticut ) was an American engineer and inventor of the radar gun .

Life

Barker worked as an engineer for the American company Automatic Signal Company . The radar was developed by Barker Sr. during World War II and tested by him on the Merritt Parkway to measure the speed of vehicles in Connecticut in 1947 . Further testing was done by the Connecticut State Police in Glastonbury , Connecticut. Barker was married.
