Sir John Lambert GCB (born April 28, 1772 , † September 14, 1847 in Weston House with Thames Ditton in Surrey ) was a British general who served in the Napoleonic Wars and the British-American War of 1812 .

Lambert joined the Grenadier Guards , also known as 1st Foot Guards , of the British Army in 1791 as an ensign . He did his service first in Great Britain and then took part in the fighting on the Iberian Peninsula . Commanding a brigade of the 6th Division in the battles of Nivelle , Nive , Orthez and Toulouse with the rank of major general . He was Mentioned in Despatches , with the Army Gold Cross awarded and on January 2, 1815 Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath in the knighthood raised.

In the British-American War of 1812 he served as a general in the Battle of New Orleans . After the battle, the British Army withdrew from Louisiana and joined an attack on Mobile . In the opening maneuvers of this campaign, under John Lambert 1,000 British soldiers won the second battle of Fort Bowyer , which was also their last mission in the war. When news of the peace treaty arrived, British troops withdrew from Mobile.

This was followed by the supreme command of the 10th Brigade in the Battle of Waterloo . From the Bavarian side he was awarded the Military Max Joseph Order ; In addition, he was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir 3rd class because of his services in the battle .
