John Landen
John Landen (born January 23, 1719 in Peakirk near Peterborough / formerly in Northamptonshire , † January 15, 1790 in Milton near Peterborough) was a reclusive mathematician .
In 1762 he was hired by Earl Fitzwilliam as land manager, where he stayed until his death. He practiced mathematics as a pastime, initially with contributions to the Ladies Diaries . In 1766 he became a member of the Royal Society . In particular, he studied differential calculus in an algebraic way. In 1775 he wrote his memoirs.
