John Malachi

John Malachi (born September 6, 1919 in Red Springs , North Carolina , † February 11, 1987 ) was an American jazz pianist and arranger .

John Malachi was self-taught and began his musical career in 1943/44 with Trummy Young . 1944/45 he was a member of Billy Eckstine and His Orchestra ; In 1947 he worked again at Eckstine, for whom he also provided arrangements. He also played with Illinois Jacquet (1948), Louis Jordan (1951) and accompanied singers such as Pearl Bailey , Dinah Washington (1951), Sarah Vaughan , Al Hibbler (1955-58) and Joe Williams . In the 1960s he was on tour as a touring musician; he spent the last half of his life in Washington, DC as a freelance musician, playing with guest bands and artists. He also led workshops that took place in clubs such as Jimmy MacPhail's Gold Room or Bill Harris's Pig's Foot .
