John Medley Wood
John Medley Wood (born December 1, 1827 in Mansfield , Nottinghamshire , † August 26, 1915 in Durban ) was a British-South African botanist who worked in the Cape Colony . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is " JMWood ".
Life
His father, a lawyer, emigrated to the Cape Colony and he followed him after some time as a seaman. Wood became curator of the Durban Botanical Gardens in 1882 .
Honors
The genus Woodia Schltr. from the plant family of the dog poison plants (Apocynaceae) and the fungus genus Woodiella Sacc. & P.Syd. have been named after him.
