John Meehan (clergyman)

John Meehan , also Giovanni Meehan , CSSp (born April 10, 1873 in Ireland ; † September 15, 1954 ) was an Irish Roman Catholic clergyman in Bathurst (now Banjul) in Gambia .

Life

The Irish Father Meehan arrived in 1905 from Dakar (Senegal) in Bathurst in what was then the British colony of British Gambia , where he led the mission, which was separated from Dakar on October 16, 1931 as Mission sui juris . The mission later became the diocese of Banjul . Meehan died in 1954 and was succeeded by Matteo Farrelly .
