John Nesbitt (musician)

John Nesbitt (* around 1900 in Norfolk , † 1935 in Boston ) was an American jazz trumpeter , composer and arranger .

Life

Nesbitt began his music career with Lillian Jones ' Jazz Hounds and Amanda Randolph. From 1925 to 1931 he was a member of McKinney's Cotton Pickers , whose sound he shaped with his compositions and arrangements. According to Gunther Schuller , Nesbitt was the band's musical director in the early years of the Cotton Pickers . He also played with Bix Beiderbecke , Jean Goldkette , the Chocolate Dandies , Don Redman and Hoagy Carmichael . After leaving the Cotton Pickers , Nesbitt worked for Zack Whyte , Speed ​​Webb and Earle Warren in the years before his untimely death . He participated in 20 recording sessions between 1928 and 1931.

Nesbitt also wrote arrangements for the orchestras of Fletcher Henderson ( Chinatown ) and Luis Russell . His compositions influenced the swing style of Gene Gifford and the Casa Loma Orchestra .
