John Quinn Weitzel MM (born May 10, 1928 in Chicago , USA ) is Bishop Emeritus of Samoa-Pago Pago in American Samoa .

Life

John Quinn Weitzel joined the religious community of the Maryknoll Missionary Order and was ordained a priest on June 11, 1955 . From 1982 to 1986 he was administrator of the Samoa-Apia Archdiocese .

Pope John Paul II appointed him in 1986 as the first bishop of the newly established diocese of Samoa-Pago Pago . He received his episcopal consecration on October 29, 1986 Pio Cardinal Taofinu'u SM , Archbishop of Samoa-Apia; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Honolulu , Joseph Anthony Ferrario , and Patrick Vincent Hurley CSsR , Auxiliary Bishop in Samoa and Tokelau.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on May 31, 2013.
